Aboriginal Women Living with HIV/AIDS: An Empowerment Perspective


Donna's maternal family ancestry is of Métis background from the Algonquin Nation, Quebec.
She has an English Honors BA (2005) from OUC and is completing an Interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree with a concentration in Indigenous Studies from UBCO. She has edited four anthologies: two short fiction, and two poetry. Her poems, short fiction, book reviews, and academic papers have appeared internationally in a number of journals and anthologies. Donna has worked as a facilitator for over 10 years, teaching HIV/AIDS education and awareness, leading an Aboriginal women's wellness group and an Aboriginal women's work readiness group.  Currently she is a Research Assistant with UBCV, Faculty of Nursing, on a three-year project titled, “Aboriginal Women’s Experiences of Leaving Intimate Partner Violence: Towards Improved Access to Health Care,” funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research.
